Club Reports: Nona Tap Room, Circa Lounge, Vixen, Independent Bar

Out of the house on a Friday night to see what's out there. First stop the Nona Tap Room out on Narcoosee Road near the new UCF Medical School. Mainly a restaurant with a beer and wine license, the venue is one of the few options that far east.

But there's a good reason to wander this far and that's none other than DJ Doc Wells (8TRAX, Atlantic Dance Hall, 80's Night at The Groove, Celebrate Tonight). He's playing a mix of mostly Top 40, Oldies and a tiny bit of Hip Hop every Friday night. He's also the DJ there every other Saturday night when videos go along with the music and sometimes they do an 80's Night.

My last visit there was a big group of dancers but last night during my visit people remained at their tables. Always fun running into Pleasure Island DJ's around town!

Onto Park Avenue in downtown Winter Park and Circa Lounge, located on the second floor of the Circa restaurant.

On Friday and Saturday nights you'll find DJ C-Money on the decks with awesome House/Dance Fridays and a more Top 40/Pretty Much Everything mix on Saturdays.

Saturdays get packed when all the Rollins girls come over but Fridays you just never know. C-Money tells me of a new House/Techno night coming to Blue Moon on Tuesdays beginning later this month and he's supposed to send me some info about it so I can share it with you all. We might see something similar at the Blue Martini on Thursdays as they're apparently phasing out their Latin Night. That would be great!

Drinks are expensive.....my gin & tonic was $9. But hey, if you want to hang with the rich people you got to be willing to spend a little!
Have not been to Vixen in downtown Orlando for awhile so that was the next stop.

And speaking of Pleasure Island DJ's, it was none other than DJ Dominick Morrison (Mannequins, EPCOT China NYE, Vintage, Sky 60) playing House music in the small venue.

A few people were dancing in the background but no one up on the small floor in front of the booth during my visit. Saturday nights you'll find Dom at neighboring Vintage playing Top 40 & Dance videos; Thursday nights he's on top of Sky 60 spinning Dubstep!!

I-Bar on a Friday night!

I had to ask DJ Indie John what title would I call his Friday night format? After all, it's so easy to label Saturday nights as "80's New Wave/Old Wave".  He said he'd call it "Indie".

Much younger crowd on Friday nights than what we see on Saturdays but just as crowded!

But as you can see being played on the monitors at the rear of this photo, he played the short version of the Martin Solveig versus Bob Sinclar tennis match song Hello. That's a Dance Pop or House song, not Indie, at least to me. But whatever you call it, it was a fun mix of music last night. Also, as many know, I-Bar's Wednesday night long-standing Necropolis night came to a conclusion this week. It will be replaced with a Pop music night. The night just was not drawing anyone anymore. Fun Fridays out there!!
