Disney Trivia

It's a slow news day today plus I'm out of town, so it's time for one of my rare editions of Disney Trivia. Did you know that there are only 3 underwater road tunnels in Florida? And that 2 of them are at Walt Disney World? That's correct. The one pictured above is on EPCOT Resorts Blvd, the road that begins at the entrance to Disney's Boardwalk and loops back around in front of the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotels. The waterway above it connects EPCOT's International Gateway with the Boardwalk. The other tunnel in WDW is way north on World Drive near Disney's Contemporary Resort. That waterway connects Bay Lake with the Seven Seas Lagoon. Both tunnels allow Disney Transportation boats to operate unimpeded by road traffic. And where is that 3rd tunnel?  It's on US1 in downtown Fort Lauderdale and goes under the New River! So now you know.

  1. Used this tunnel many times to get over to the Beach Club. Usually we get a reservation for the Cape May buffet and get access into the best pool in Florida, the Beach & Yacht Club pool.

  2. Yes, I have to agree. The sand bottom pool is the best! Thanks Bob for the random trivia... I knew the two on property, had no idea where the third one was...

  3. There's kinda two tunnels over by Yacht/Beach if you count the one for Avenue of the Stars (aka Epcot backstage drive), which is right next to the one for Epcot Resorts Blvd. It's probably part of the same tunnel structure since they run side by side.

  6. Bob-
Check out this Google Maps Satellite view:

You can see the two roads run side-by-side; the Guest road on the left, and the backstage/Cast road on the right.

It's another example of when Disney really did things right.

  7. Wow, that's amazing. Never knew the service road around World Showcase was so close. They do an incredible job of blocking off views of things they don't want people to see, thus creating an image that things are much farther apart. Joe, thanks for sharing!
