Breaking News: PI Construction Permits Filed!!!
OK folks, this is what we've all been waiting for. Disney today filed for two construction permits for the "PLEASURE ISLAND/DOWNTOWN DISNEY RE-DEVELOPMENT PROJECT".
The first page above shows a permit filed for "Site Construction Trailer Mobilization". The second and third pages are a different permit for "Overall Site Construction" and lists every building on Pleasure Island except Paradiso 37. The most noteworthy information is in the Misc. Areas section where 1) the service yard between Portobello and Raglan Road is mentioned. That's consistent with the main Island walkway being routed through there; 2) Area Development in front of Fulton's & Portobello; this already began and was pictured on the Blog this past Friday; 3) Fuego/Sosa Cigars 4) Area Development between Comedy Warehouse & the demolished BET/Adventurers Club! This would be the area currently referred to as Celebration Plaza. 5) Archway Feature at Bridge 2 and possible alterations approaching Bridge 2 for Valet Parking.
well, its about time something is being done. guess its only a matter of time before they release all the details about what they are actually doing. by the looks of it, motion, ad club and bet are all on the chopping blocks. walking through PI wont be the same without them. its like, they want to get rid of Pleasure Island like they did with Light Magic! want to make it a completely different place with no mention of it at all.
ReplyDeleteValet parking for what?
ReplyDeleteShocking this should come out the DAY after Uinversal announced it's highest quarterly profit EVER....
ReplyDeleteUniversal!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little confused on the info.
ReplyDeleteSo you're saying they plan to demolish Motion, BET,RRBC, and Portobello, and Reglan Road.
Hopefully they'll rethink about Mannequinns and fix it up and reopen it.
P.S. Mr, Staggs hopefully this will be putting "Plan B" into action for some night life.
Let's keep Pleasure Island by name.
Other than the BET/AC building, the Construction Permit gives no indication of other buildings coming down. From all the rumor chatter out there, Motion and RRBC are coming down too, but the CP does not say that. I think Raglan & Sosa are impacted by the construction but are not coming down. Mannequins/8TRAX and CW building may get renovated with new tenants but they're not coming down, sources say.
ReplyDeleteUniversal Citywalk knows how to satisfy their customers, with entertainment. Disney dropped the ball with this one!!
ReplyDelete"Universal Citywalk knows how to satisfy their customers, with entertainment. Disney dropped the ball with this one!!"
ReplyDeleteI don't think so it's just that City walk has a hugh parking lot and an easy place to meet up! I have been and I don't really care for city walk! ONE od the things I used to love about PI was that you had to pay to get in ON the island and or have a pass! when Disney took away the gates and let people on the island for free! I still feel that was bad Idea!
now this! for PI! this doesn't say what exactly is coming down or what is being rabed!
Today's (October 19, 2010)Orlando Sentinel has an article entitled "Signs of Life at Disney's World's Pleasure Island". The article gives credit to the "Save Pleasure Island Blog" for revealing the construction permits.
ReplyDeleteGood Job, Bob!

ReplyDeleteI saw a Channel 2 News story at 6:00PM and they talked like PI is coming back!
ReplyDeleteWe Win!!!!
Great job Bob!
Let's see some links people! I'd like to see KingBob get some props in the Sentinel and also post a link to the Channel 2 story pertaining to PI.
ReplyDeleteFolks, Pleasure Island is not coming back. It's going to be something else with a new name. Whether Mannequins or 8TRAX will come back in some form of club remains to be seen. That's our only hope right now.
ReplyDeletegive king bob some credit, but not a big head..he only passes along rumors to us
ReplyDeletethank you Bob for saying this about PI!!!
ReplyDeleteand I still believe that there will be NO clubs reopen and still don't want Disney to reopen them anyway still say that the way Disney handled it "us" Disney does not want or need our money!
sill I ask do you want a 1/10 of what Mannequins and or 8TRAX was?????????
They could build a glorified slaughterhouse and I'd pay if it meant they'd keep 1/10th of what M'qns & 8TRAX used to be! Long live the CO2 cannons & disco.
ReplyDeleteAny club with a revolving dance floor would get my business unless they played country music there! But Disney has had 2 country music failures at PI so I doubt they would go that route.
ReplyDeleteAnd a re-imagined 8TRAX, I'd absolutely be there and so would thousands of others.
I used to love all the clubs at PI! I went weekly as a CP! I heard the place was built just to shut down Church Street Station! Now downtown Orlando is good and Disney doesnt care. Other than House of Blues I still think Disney should have at least one other club. But HOB used to stay open till 3am and Disney wanted to save money on the security so that quit too, so maybe no clubs cuz they cant afford late nite security.
ReplyDeleteOne source told me HOB was shutting down in 2011 but I have absolutely no verification on that rumor.
ReplyDeleteHey great post. Thought I'm not sure I agree with you 100%. Keep em coming. Are you interested in having anyone guest post opposing views?
