Pleasure Island Reunion

The 2nd Annual Pleasure Island Reunion took place last night at Atlantic Dance Hall in Bay Lake. Large crowd of former PI patrons on hand as DJ Tony Z (Planet Hollywood) played sets of Mannequins, 8TRAX and Motion hits. And he thankfully stayed away from any songs one might have heard at former-clubs Neon Armadillo and Pleasure Island Jazz Company! Great job Tony!

The DJ was backed up by Disney's best lighting tech, Alisa (Mannequins).

OMG, the biggest surprise of the night was working at the back bar....Bobby C. (Mannequins) It was great seeing him behind a bar again, just like old times. Bobby is a waiter at Kouzzina.

Spotted in the crowd was another former PI bartender, Gordo (Mannequins) and friend! Gordo currently tends the pool bar at Disney's Pop Century Resort.

A group from Ticketing including Save Pleasure Island Blog roving reporter William, center.

No matter which way you turned, there was another PI face recognized. Bartender Taryn (8TRAX) was spotted near the main bar! She currently is a waitress at Flying Fish. Love the long hair!

There were several times when the dance floor was just about completely packed, no small feat in a club the size of ADH. It was a great time and once again displayed the demand for evening entertainment for adults on Disney property! Big thanks to Flowers for organizing the 2010 Reunion. Hopefully in 2011 we can meet right on the island, enjoying something!

  3. Were your friends PI cast members? That seems to be the most disgruntled group. As far as us patrons go, we're not happy with the situation either but few of us are so distraught that we refuse to hang out with PI friends.

  4. A friend who went said today it was a dud of a party and should have made other plans.

  6. It was a HUGE surprise seeing Bobby C. tending bar. OMG. Just like old times. All of us "regulars" spent alot of time and money at our favorite clubs, met alot of friends and called it home. Why would you want to "let it go"? Dont you reminisce about old flames or things you did when you were younger? Same here. Difference is, you can interact with those people that you shared your time with...Good God...it's such a bad thing? I think not

  7. BobbyC had emailed me early Friday morning to tell me he was going to be bartending there and to let readers know. Unfortunately, I did not have time after work on Friday to read my email so I did not know it. So it was a huge surprise to me too. A great surprise. And I thank whoever arranged for that to happen.

Anon at 12:10pm, you are exactly right! I wish more PI regulars would have come out but there were quite a few there and it was a lot of fun.

  9. it was Nice to see old friends!
but I think if Dawn was working more would have been there giving the fact it was put out there!
I can remember walking into Mannequins and seeing Dawns bar full early and not much at any other bar. even with 3 other bar tenders on there where 3 times and many at her bar! with no disrespect to Bobby, Godo....... and or and other bartenders

  10. 71, still hoping to meet you some time!

Brian, good seeing you again. I agree; Dawn would have been a great addition too. What night of the week does she usually tend bar at AKL?

  11. Bob it was nice to see you as well.

Dawn works as a server 5 days/nights a week now the only time she will tend bar is when someone is sick or needs time off from that bar!
and she will let some of us know when!
and if I find out when i will let you know as well!

  12. The Boardwalk is so beautiful, and soooo empty. ADH is a "vanilla" night club with no atmosphere, no ANYTHING. I will not go there again. FYI - I had brought along a CD of the opening light show music from Mannequins and asked the DJ if he would play it, and he said "SURE!" but we found out later on that management would not allow it. Wow, really??? There we all were spending our money on drinks but they did not want us there, they did not want "Pleasure Island" even mentioned. The DJ had sampled the "Mannequins" name from the CD and I guess that is when they said NO MORE. Well, it was nice to see all the regulars in one place aga in *sigh*.

  13. Brian, let us know.

Anon at 12:12pm, I don't want to look like I'm defending ADH management but I have to tell you that legally clubs cannot play people's homemade recordings. Consumers are legally allowed to make recordings for personal use but not for public performance. Clubs must pay ASCAP, BMI or SESAC for the use of music. If ADH had the original recording that Mannequins used to use, they could have played it. But not your copy. Anyone in a management position would have had to say NO.

  14. ok Bob FINE but it is still the way she acted about it

  15. In addition, the DJ had the original version from Mannequins also. I was there. I heard him say that. The one given to him may have been a copy of something else, but the DJ DID have the original. He was prepared to play it (the original, that is) until a copy of it was given to him, which he was happy to play also. When it was given to him, he did not seem to have a problem playing it that night. Its too bad Management had to step in. We too, had a right to be there. I am still very hurt by "her" remark. I am sure Disney will make up some excuse for her actions. And stand by her, even if she was wrong. Sad, isn't it?
