Club Report: 80's Night at The Groove

One of the nice things about living in Orlando is the ability to be at Disney World one minute and then be at Universal Studios just 20-minutes later! (Of course it can then take another 20 minutes to get from the parking garage into CityWalk!)

80's Night at The Groove was in full swing last night with crowds way beyond my expectations. Apparently a Nabisco/Kraft convention was in CityWalk and many stayed afterwards to enjoy music from the 80's. It being the third Thursday of the month, the 80's band Switch was also performing sets and they were as good as I've ever seen them. The crowd was really getting in to it. DJ Doc Wells (8TRAX, Atlantic Dance) played between sets and I think I even heard a few back-to-back 70's Disco hits from him around midnight! Sorry I cut off your head, Doc! Fun time!!

Oh, and speaking of 8TRAX, big thanks to loyal Blog reader Roger for alerting me to 8TRAX Remixed, taking place tomorrow (Saturday) night at Celebration Town Tavern in Celebration. They're holding an 80's flashback party beginning at 10pm featuring 80's music, 80's drinks and 80's bad hair! I might need to check this out.

  1. Damn! Just reopen 8 Trax already!!! The Groove's 80's night is great, but....come on. What the hell is wrong with Disney? We always had a great time at 8 Trax, the crowd was always clean and fun (unlike some of the nights we have been at The Groove...haha). BRING BACK THE ISLAND ALREADY!!!

  3. Wasn't the live band called "Nerd Rangers"? They were pretty good and got a great responce to the very end.

  4. While it's over and closed, it's not "gone"
There's always a glimmer of hope a club 'could' return.
(which is not saying one WILL return)

  5. SoCalGal, the band's official name is Switch but their nickname is Nerd Rangers. They have a large Nerd Rangers banner hanging along the railing by the DJ.

  7. Belle, it's the first time they've done it that I'm aware of. If it was successful, they'd probably do it again. I wasn't able to check it out since I was headed in the opposite direction that night.
