PI Update: Bridge To Nowhere

Reconstruction of the Pleasure Island #1 Bridge continues and appears to be much more extensive than I would have otherwise guessed. Work is taking place during the middle of the night. The arch truss on the east side of the bridge has been removed and they are laying a new foundation.

Entertainment remains available in the new Ultra-Lounge at Celebration Plaza. The musical acts "plug-in" with long cords connected inside Comedy Warehouse which created this gap in the bushes and I was able to peek in. Nothing happening in there!

The nostalgic Kungaloosh drink has returned to the menu at Laffer's Cantina as well as to PI Live Bar. No hot dog cart last night; I'm told it only appears on Friday & Saturday nights.

  1. "We've got some interesting stuff planned in the interim because we don't want the place to look like a dark area with nothing but dark clubs around it," Lansberry said.
(Quote from a 2008 article about the PI closure)

  2. Joe, I'm not sure what he was talking about because when the clubs first closed:

    1) The place was like a ghost town after dark.
    2) PI Live had to be resurrected so that there was some music and talking on the island at night.
    3) That gave way to moving PI Live and they began Celebrate Tonight.
4)And that crapped-out so they came up with the idea for various types of soft entertainment in the ultra-lounge format.

None of that was anticipated or planned during the Lansberry administration.

  3. It sounds to me like it's starting to get pretty expensive paying workers to work till long hours of the night.
If you ask me they should reopen the Adventurer's Club and rethink about tearing down.
Who wants to drink and hear the sounds of construction work while wanting to hear music.

  4. Anon, the budget to operate the current scheme on the Island (the ultralounge entertainers) is likely similar to what they were paying to operate Celebrate Tonight. Except now they're probably taking in more drink revenue.

And any construction work would take place in the middle of the night so you wouldn't hear it.
