Save Pleasure Island...........Now or Never!
This Blog has been around for two years now but this past weekend, the one year anniversary of the Flag Counter being added took place. You know how many visitors have been here this past year? 36,000! Mostly from Florida of course but six other states have generated more than 1,000 hits. But now more than ever, we need to come back together and try one more time to get Disney to realize that Pleasure Island is worth returning to its adult roots.
Pleasure Island as we knew it is not coming back. I'll report on the latest rumors later this week. But within the changes that are coming to the island there is room for a comedy club and there is no reason that one or two adult-oriented dance clubs can't reopen.
I don't know how Tom Skaggs feels about Pleasure Island. But the early read on him is that he's very big-picture oriented and that he's willing to change what ain't right. His office address and email address was posted in the Comments of yesterday's article but I'll repeat both here:
Thomas O. Staggs
Chairman
Walt Disney Parks & Resorts
c/o Team Disney Building
500 South Buena Vista Street
Burbank CA 91521-4873

The chances are slim and some of you believe impossible. That may be correct. But is it worth a few minutes of your time to write the guy and tell him how you feel? We need every reader to take a few minutes to do this. If you read this Blog it's because you care about Pleasure Island. If you read this Blog it's because you miss Pleasure Island. If you read this Blog it's because you want to return to Pleasure Island. A regular letter would be great but nowadays email is perfectly acceptable. My suggestions:
1) Be polite. Anger is just going kill this campaign. Don't be rude or crude.
2) Tell him why PI was so great and why some of it needs to be returned.
3) Ask him to reconsider the closure and bring some of the old PI back again.
4) Include your real name, mailing address and phone number so that they know you're a real person. Surprisingly, a lot of people get contacted by Disney when they write in.
Every reader please. We need everyone. Pass this around to everyone you know that loved PI. It's now or never!
dear mr. skaggs,
ReplyDeleteboard up and knock down that mess calledpi, i have spent alot of money their in the past and no matter how much you spend NOW on that place you will never get the return you would expect. take it down and build another vacation club their, guaranteed retun on that
adult entertainment is not a disney strength...look at adh, joke!! never is that great, just some hopeful locals that yearn for mdp. make that an indoor flea market or a bingo hall abh, atlantic bingo hall sounds good...i gave up on disney when they gave up on me and many other DEVOTED regulars
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Be NICE, be polite, and most of all, PROFESSIONAL.
ReplyDeleteWhat this means is, Disney has to have a reason, financially, to reopen these clubs. There is nothing wrong with that, they are there to make money and they are a business, and a very successful one at that.
If you want something in life, if you want to make a sale, you don't make it about you, you make it about them. If you are going to sell things that Mr. Skaggs buys, you need to see things through Mr. Skaggs's eyes. Be empathetic. See it from his point of view.
You may want to address him as "Tom STAGGS" (not 'Skaggs')
ReplyDeletei am a nice local that misses pi but have to professionally agree that disney made the right decision to stop operations. do us all a favor and make the announcement that pi will be torn down and not reopened
ReplyDeletethank you
disney stockholder
I think anonymous at 8:21, 8:30 and 9:16 are all the same people.
ReplyDeletei agree it might be same person, but has good points
ReplyDeleteMr Staggs,
ReplyDeletePlease reopen PI because it was a good place to dance and have a great time and good fun for adults.
So hopefully all of the faithful save Pleasure Island people and there're a lot of them, can see it lit up and have fun again.
J.D.W
I don't think closing PI was a good idea! they didn't try to keep it open as a Disney club manager told me when I said Disney needs to adverse PI he told me that Disney does NOT adverse for PI. I think that was a bad idea how do you think people are going to think about going out to PI?
ReplyDeletead this is why I I will NOT go back to PI if they reopened (ok i would go once to see what is like)
now if Disney tried and it closed after that I would still would not be happy but have respected Disney for this BUT NOT the way it happened!
you didn't you ask people to do this before maybe it was some else? but not to Thomas O. Staggs! was someone else! and we did and looks like it feel on deaf ears!
I am being nice and polite
I am a long time PI person aslo I miss PI as much as anybody else that went a lot and knew a lot of PI pass members and CM's
I know that some of the CM's that worked at PI that said they will NOT go back if it reopened!
i sent my letter today to mr. staggs outlining my concerns about pi...hope to get a response from someone. mentioned to other pi lovers to send a letter and they were 50/50 on there stance will see
ReplyDeleteabout 36,000 have looked at save pi site 19,444 from Florida alone
ReplyDeletesweet but where were they? when PI was open?
now that PI is closed they show up and took 2 years to get this many to look (look) at this site! and yes I said LOOK because they didn't show up to PI and keep it open! why?
I was there every weekend and spent Money
waiting on the latest rumors, yawn, what could they possibly going to do
ReplyDeleteBased on ISP addresses, appears that 2 people are writing the negative responses on here under the Anonymous alias.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me that you're not willing to TRY to make a difference. You're entitled to your opinion and are free to post it here...I don't censor. But I don't understand the hatred nor do I understand why someone who says they wouldn't even go if something on PI reopened would bother to read this Blog. If you'ved moved on from PI, then move on.
Brian, the 36,000 is a one year count. I didn't have a traffic counter until a year ago.
Bob
ReplyDeletetrue about the numbers ok!
I guess my point is that now is when people care and want write to Disney and say they love (loved) PI. so why didn't they come out when it was open to keep it open?
so I would have to say that they gave up before it closed?
that's is my opinion!
I was there!
Two very sad people, like you say why frequent the site when you don't care for the subject. Even worse why post several times, its kind of pathetic. Brings to mind someone who sits at home in his undies on a Friday and Saturday on the computer because they are scared to go out and have fun. Kind of pathetic they don't have anything better to do. They are kind of entertaining and instructive as well....lol
ReplyDeleteits wed night and i am home in my undies because pi has nothing open tonight just like 2 years ago because pi wanted tourist $$$ instead of mine---they realy ran locals off near the end
ReplyDelete>its wed night and i am home in my undies.
ReplyDeleteWell there are better websites than this one for people like you!
people read this blog because it is amusing, informative and gives people the opportunity to have a voice on issues that interest them or used to interest them and for some who dont get to go out much, you get to keep in touch with some reality
ReplyDeleteSunday - Wednesday = undies ok
ReplyDeleteThursday - Saturday = undies not okay till after 2 am and preferably not by yourself! lol
what if you never wear any undies?
ReplyDeleteWhat about us that wear gutchies? Is there a specific timeframe of wearing them?
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:32
ReplyDeleteget a life how and why would you come up with a sick thing like this! sounds like you know more than your willing to tell???? just so you don't look like the one who's doing this? HUH?
"I don't understand the hatred nor do I understand why someone who says they wouldn't even go if something on PI reopened would bother to read this Blog. If you'ved moved on from PI, then move on."
ReplyDeletebecause I am not happy what Disney did so I am willing to try to make some understand that Disney doesn't care for the locals and if i can keep some money out of Disney hands I will!? that is why?
and also like you said ALL can still read and post!
I think some don't like this kind of talk but why are they so tick?
there seams to be some who can't be mature about there comments?
funny how you pick on the comments that are negative?
Well I think you're wrong. Disney just like any other business wants the green stuff and they don't care whether you're from Maitland or Mars. They wouldn't offer annual passes if they didn't want local business because that is where most of the AP business comes from. Nor would they offer discounts for Florida residents as they do under many circumstances. What they didn't want at PI were the local teens and thugs. If you're either, perhaps that's why you were made to feel less than welcome.
ReplyDeletedisney knows to keep it closed, they already feel the burden of capital and embarisment and not being able to attempt to recreate a successful venue, they know allthis they know they need more food venues to service the area and wont approach on their own ,they want third party companies to come in but not in this economy
ReplyDeleteThe desire for 3rd party operators remains true. But that doesn't mean that Staggs can't reverse direction if a business case was made proving otherwise.
ReplyDeleteKingBob at 6:45 a.m. First off, what the heck are you doing up at 6:45?? Second, well said!!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be able to keep up with the happenings from up here in Gatorville. Thanks for the news and updates!!
Pleasure Island should be reopened. It makes no sense to have those buildings sitting empty when they could be generating revenue. When they announced the closing, they stated that the clubs were still making money. It also makes no sense to tear down perfectly good buildings either just because they have not been able to lease them to a third party vendor. They should put this ultra lounge inside one of the closed clubs (8-trax maybe since it was the smallest) and see how it does. If it generates foot traffic and of course revenue then they should start looking at opening the other clubs one by one or leasing the clubs to third party clubs (like that piano bar at Boardwalk).
ReplyDeleteJeff, the Save Pleasure Island staff is working 24/7 to bring you the latest PI news!
