The newest edition to CityWalk is Fat Tuesday, an outside bar featuring frozen concoctions i.e. alcoholic slushees! I've posted the new sign previously but now the construction wall has been removed and one can see the front facade. Looking forward to seeing what it looks like behind that overhead door. FT replaces Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs which seemed to rarely be open!
Had time for a quick swing through Atlantic Dance Hall last night at Disney's Boardwalk Resort. In the booth, lighting tech Elisa (Mannequins) was getting wacky with DJ Frankie of Frankie & The West End Boys (West End Stage/RRBC). There was actually a pretty good crowd on hand for a Thursday night. Expect large crowds tonight and Saturday night because it's "ESPN The Weekend" time with lots of visitors coming to town. Look for DJ Talie (Motion) in the booth tonight and DJ Pat on Saturday night. Have a great weekend!
Hey KingBob, To get to Atlantic Dance Hall, do you have to go through a security guy, then park pretty far away, then go up through the main boardwalk entrance, straight thru the lobby, out the doors then down the steps into a courtyard, make a left once on the boardwalk, and down to ADH. Didn't know if you had some shorter shortcut? Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's pretty much how it works although you don't have to go through the Boardwalk Resort lobby; there are outside stairs to the right of the lobby entrance that head down directly to the boardwalk itself. I've also heard of people parking at the Westin Swan/Dolphin and going to ADH from there. I've not tried it.
ReplyDeleteApparently the long and complicated maze from the main road to the inside of the club hasn't changed since the last time I was there about 6 or 7 years ago. Me and my brother went out of our way trying to find that place back then, and then once we did we discovered that it was closed at the time. The Boardwalk itself was rather cool though.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Elisa and Frankie!
ReplyDeleteMajor, ADH is open every night except Sunday/Monday. On occasion it might be closed for a private rental but that is relatively rare.
ReplyDeleteI'm over ADH. Unless they're playing dance or anything close to techno, the music sucks. It's the same lame-ass line dancing and crap hip-hop. They play soulja boy every time I go. You can't play request music every night and expect to get decent crowds. They need to set up nights that will draw a specific crowd and a large crowd but we all know that will neve happen. I can't deal with their sloppy sets anymore.
ReplyDeleteAnon, ADH clearly is just not for you. It's designed for the convention and meeting people staying at the Westin Swan & Dolphin hotels and those on the Boardwalk. Those people generally want Top 40 and that by its very nature includes Hip Hop. It's a very close copy of what Motion was.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the mix there either but it's up to the DJ's to sort it out. The better DJ's take the requests and group them by genre. During the recent PI Reunion the DJ "clustered" some Mannequins songs, some 8TRAX songs and some Hip Hop(BET Soundstage) songs. It flowed well.
If you want techno, go downtown like I do.
Motion was never that bad...... Since I work at Disney and I work the evening shift it's easier to stay on property then drive to Orlando near closing time so unfortunately I am unable to make it to the clubs you go to.....As far as convention crowds- what crowds? They're all over at Jellyrolls.
ReplyDeleteYes, Jellyrolls is quite popular and IMO the best of the dueling piano bars in Orlando.(The other two being Howl At the Moon and Pat O'Brien's.)
ReplyDeleteBut ADH can hold its own when conventions are on-property. I'm not normally out mid-week but I've heard reports of ADH being packed on some Tuesday/Wednesday nights!
