Pleasure Island Then & Now

Pleasure Island Then:
Hey, isn't that faithful reader and Mannequins regular Ken doing the Electro beginning at 1:38 into the clip? Hey, isn't that Mannequins regular Frances "The Pony Tail Guy" crossing the screen around 4:19? And hey, isn't that Ralph from Disney Security breaking it up around 5:35?

Pleasure Island Now:
Hey, aren't things just so much better now?

  1. But, hey, look how Family Friendly it is now (and empty... and boring...)

    It's a BOLD NEW VISION.

  2. GREAT video of Pleasure Island 'THEN', but even that was obviously recorded on a slow night - or real early at night - or towards the end of it all as we knew it. I remember a Pleasure Island 'THEN' that was FAR more vibrant than that. I remember a Pleasure Island 'THEN' that had public areas, walkways, entrances, and clubs that were crammed and choked with partygoers. Those awesome memories live on endlessly.

  4. OMG, you're right Mark. It's like a Mannequins Reunion in that first video!

Majorhitwaves, welcome to the Save PI blog. You are correct. The island was traditionally much more crowded than what was filmed that night.

Joe, not so sure how family friendly that is. It didn't look to me that the children were having fun!

  5. Ha Ha, yeah, that's me in the black hat doing some air-walking and side floats. I use to have just as much fun outside the PI clubs as inside the clubs. I miss PI, however, I'm still doing my thing at City Walk and having a blast.

  6. There is still a pleasure island people can still go to. It is in Disneyland on pinoccio ride.

  7. You're right to put up a disclaimer. The video of P.I. now is very disturbing.

  8. It was sad to see PI go the very last night. I still don't understand why they had to close ALL the clubs. They should have kept Mannequins and 8-Trax open, and close the rest. I bet they would have made so much more money with only those 2 clubs open.
Oh well, I guess we still have Atlantic Dance, which does NOT compare to PI.

  9. Thats nothing. You should see some of the photos from the Island back when it first opened. Not public, as some of them aren't really approved by Disney, but what they show, is nightlife that was beyond anything ever created anywhere else.

  10. The children are cute. But to think that Pleasure Island has withered down to this, is so very very sad.

  11. the 4th Aron. I hear you! PI was the best place ever! they had the P.I. explosion Dancers. out on the west end stage and the video hub stage and in Mannequins! Mannequins made most of the money on the Island (more than all the clubs combined! the one night ticket was $9.99 + tax for all the clubs $25 for a pass for a year! it was safe place to park and go.

  12. I agree. I felt safer and didn't fear for my vehicle in the parking lot going to Disney. Consider what just happened at Revolution this week. Disgraceful.

  13. What is revolution and what happened?

  14. Moron, I agree.
    Alley Cat, I don't know.

  15. Revolution is a club on Bumby. Outside the club about 2 dozen cars' tires were slashed on Monday. They are considering it a possible hate crime because it's a gay club and Monday is Latino night.
