Princess Diana Gowns Coming to DTD

This past week the website Disboards posted a rumor (since removed) that the former location of Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney West Side would be replaced with an exhibition of Princess Diana's gowns! The rumor stated that a contract had been signed between Disney and Maureen Rorech Dunkel, the lady who bought 14 of Princess Diana's gowns a few weeks before the princess died in a car wreck in August 1997.

Save Pleasure Island can confirm that this rumor appears to be true. The following is an e-mail sent to students at the University of Central Florida's Rosen College of Hospitality Management:

With no disrespect intended to Priness Diana, this is just a travesty that Disney is so desperate to fill empty space that something like this needs to be brought to Walt Disney World.
Update: It's now official. This exhibit is coming!

  1. Pathetic. This is so non-Disney.

  3. There are no words to describe the crap that DTD has become!

  4. Well I still really like Disney Marketplace. Most of the things are still Disney-owned and operated (I think) so it's still very "Disney".

I've never cared for the West Side anyway and this just makes it worse.

Then there's my favorite: Pleasure Island. It remains in limbo and awaits some kind of announcement. There is hope that we will some day see some night clubs open again.

  5. Dude, I wanted to high-five the computer monitor when I read your comments at the end. Couldn't agree with you more, this belongs in a museum somewhere not DTD. Bad show once again Disney. Just goes to prove how bad the economy is when this is the best trick pony Disney can pull out of it's hat to fill such massive empty space.

  7. Yawn...

That's just what the guests were asking for... Princess Diana gowns.

  8. WS and PI are becoming a bigger joke everyday!

  9. Yeah, I'm going to travel from Tampa to Orlando for the night just to visit a slew of dresses on a Friday or Saturday night. That's what Pleasure Island was for, the reason I traveled to Orlando on weekends. Now I guess the new place is CityWalk!! BOO!!

    Joe, I'm lovin' it!!

  11. I agree, my vacation time in Orlando now focuses around Citywalk. That's where it's happening. This is Disney's loss because we usually stayed in Downtown Disney hotels, and visited Pleasure Island nightly along with the restaurants. Sometimes twice a year...

  12. Maybe that Titanic exhibit that's over on I-Drive can be brought over to downtown disney too!

  13. At least it's going to be a temporary exhibit. That's really the only good thing I can say about this.

  14. I posted this on the Orlando Attractions website:

"This is truly something the entire family can enjoy together. And since this is Disney World, isn’t that what it’s all about?"

  15. KingBob-

That ideologoy is what caused the decline of DTD and PI to begin with.

  16. Anon, I wasn't being serious. No guy wants to see that crap; it's hardly something for the whole family!
