Concert Report: Brian & Alicia's Wedding Reception (Jacksonville)

This is "the bold new city of the south", Jacksonville, Florida. And as dusk approached, it was our clubbing destination this Saturday night.

We were told by several different people last night that Jacksonville does not have much of an electronic music DJ scene but what little there is takes place at Decca Live a few doors down and here at Myth Nightclub. Both are located on East Bay Street downtown, directly across from the scenic St. John's River.

Upon entering, we were greeted by Kyle Myers, promoter for I Love Florida House.

When you come in via the Myth main entrance, you come through this entry tunnel which has an awesome moving and color-changing light show taking place above on the ceiling.

There are three "rooms" at Myth. The front room has a large bar and kitchen.

The main room is home to another large bar, dance floor and DJ booth. The wedding reception party had begun at 6PM and was already in progress when we first arrived. DJ Dave Gluskin (USA) was playing.

This would be a night of mostly Breaks and Dave Gluskin did not disappoint.

The main room is large and it's dominated by an even larger oak tree.

Even though the evening was still young, there was already activity out on the dance floor.

Myth has several shiny disco balls so you know the place is legit.

More revelers arriving and immediately populating the dance floor.

Near the end of his set, Trancy/Breaky 4 Strings (NL) hit "Take Me Away".

At 7PM, introduction of the newlyweds. Presenting Alicia & Brian "The Manti" Keilman.

And then The Manti would go straight into his own Dance set.

His set mostly Breaks of course.

Club had gotten packed!

Bride on the dance floor!

Everybody having a great time on this happy occasion.

Including the very-animated Manti.

Close to 8PM we turned our head to the left and there he was. The legend, the headliner.....

DJ Magic Mike (USA)

Magic Mike's set included a lot of Old School including Classic Dance hits such as "Show Me Love" and "You're Not Alone".

Dance floor was going crazy.

That look you get from great Breakbeats!

The energy in the room was thick!

Magic Mike had the club bouncing!

Mike tells us that he and The Manti go back a long way to their days as new DJ's in Orlando.

We ran into SO many peeps from the Jacksonville and Orlando music scenes. Some were new but most we knew.

It was all-too-soon 9PM and time for DJ Ofay (USA).

Mostly Breaks; perhaps some Electro in there.

No one leaving just yet.

No proverbial "wedding reception DJ's" last night! Not here!

Ofay would close-out the main room and the party would switch to the club's outside Terrace. A good time was had by all is an understatement.

A lot of people wonder what shoes the bride was wearing under her flowing wedding gown when she got married.

A lot of people wonder what shoes the groom was wearing under his baggy trousers when he got married.

The third room at Myth is their outdoor Terrace area. During Ofay's set, this area opened for business and as you can see, it too has a large bar area and a DJ booth towards the rear.

A local DJ came on in the main room and the wedding reception crowd migrated from there to the Terrace.

Orlando-based DJ Josh Lawrence (USA) would come on at midnight in the main room.

On the Terrace, DJ R.E.D. (USA) was in the booth when we first arrived.

We heard some House, we heard some Soul.

Dance floor got crowded.

Another legend came on next: DJ Miguel Alvarez (E/USA).

The Jacksonville-based DJ would return the music to Breaks.

Far smaller than the main room, it became difficult to move about the place.

Ocala last weekend, Jacksonville this weekend. Gainesville and Daytona, you're on our radar.

If you're in the JAX area on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 26th, don't miss DJ Dan (USA) playing right here at Myth Nightclub. Advance tickets here.

Congratulations to Brian and Alicia! One memory of the evening is not only how enthusiastic the DJ's were but also how enthusiastic the crowd was. It was off the chain and indeed, a good time was had by all.
