NYE Night in Epcot

One of the greatest NYE parties in the Orlando area takes place at EPCOT at Walt Disney World. There are DJ's stationed at many of the countries and they're playing Dance music both before and after the massive fireworks show. This is what we know so far:

CHINA:  DJ Charles Miles - EDM

ITALY: Unknown DJ but not Mark Sanchez - House / EDM

JAPAN: Unknown DJ - K-Pop / J-Pop

UK:  Silent Groove - Silent Disco with 2 channels of music

AMERICAN ADVENTURE: Unknown DJ but not Carlos Carrion- Latin

FOUNTAIN STAGE: Unknown DJ - Top 40

DS Update: What Happened To the DJ's - Part 2

This past August we did an article that mentioned how there was a DJ spinning at every stage, nook and crannie in Disney Springs last New Years Eve and how DJ's had disappeared from the Springs subsequent to that! Now that another New Years Eve is upon us, are they back to using DJ's there? The answer is NO. We took a look at this week's Disney Springs entertainment schedule here and there isn't a damn DJ playing anywhere! They just have their normal acts playing which consists of bands, duos and instrumentalists. Just the normal Saturday night schedule. Very sad, very odd.

 

Trip Report: Updated List Of Countries

The trip ended with a final flight from Atlanta to Orlando. Three additional countries were added to my list bringing the total to 115. Sadly, the port of call in Nicaragua was cancelled so that one was missed. You can see the entire updated list here.

ADH Update: Apparently No NYE Party At ADH

For the second year in a row, there apparently will be no special NYE Party at Atlantic Dance Hall this year. It is a Saturday night so they will be open but it will be a regular free night there without all the NYE trimmings, snacks, champagne, etc. Also, we've read that during the holidays all Disney resorts will not be allowing visitor parking so it's not likely you'll be able to park at the Boardwalk so should plan to arrive via Disney Transportation from Disney Springs or pay to park at the nearby Swan/Dolphin hotels.

This Weekend In Techno Town

With this being Christmas weekend, we're not aware of any special DJ concerts. Most downtown bars may be open but just no touring DJ's playing. Recommend you review options on-line before heading down to any particular venue.

Trip Report: Central America

Another trip in progress, this time on cruise ship Norwegian Jewel. The cruise origin was in Colon, Panama which is on the Caribbean/Atlantic side and we traversed the Panama Canal to get to the Pacific side.

Costa Rica was our first port. This was a new country for me.

Guatemala is another new country for me. I love how all these Central American country tags include "Centro America" on them.

We sadly skipped Nicaragua due to political turmoil there but the stop in El Salvador did occur. This was also a new country for me. Mexican ports were next and while they were new cities, Mexico itself was not new.

Club Reports: 70's Party (Norwegian Jewel)

By now you know that if we’re traveling we like to share entertainment choices in the various cities or ships we’re on. As the cruise on Norwegian Jewel continued, we attended a 70's Disco party in the ship's main club, Spinnaker Lounge.

Nearly every ship we've been on has a 70's Night but they're typically performed by DJ's. This was different in that the ship's show band D'Revelation (RP) provided the music and they did a great job of sounding like the original songs.

 

And the dance floor stayed jammed!

Songs included requisite Disco hits like "Ring My Bell", "We Are Family" "Funky Town", "Last Dance" and " Hot Stuff".

The ship's animation team joined in the fun.

Cruise Director Tahani (RP/BIH) was looking groovy in her 70's threads.

While Team Member Caroline (BR) was looking elegant in black-on-black-on-black.

While this was nothing like last month's World's Largest Disco event we attended in Buffalo, songs like "Freak Out" and "Shake Your Groove Thing" kept the night fun!

A good time was had by.....all.

PI Update: Curl's Move & Demise

Ten years ago this week in 2012 it was announced that the Curl by Sammy Duval store was relocating to the then new Splitsville building on the West Side. As you'll recall, it was in a building on Pleasure Island adjacent to 8TRAX. In that new spot, it would be joined by Fit2Run, the runner's superstore. The new location would ultimately be the end of the run for Curl though as the M&M's store would take over the location several years later with Curl closing and Fit2Run relocating to Disney Springs Town Center's Arcade building.

 

CW Update: Escape Rooms To Open This Friday

Well The Groove is never more but this coming Friday is the opening of replacement Universal's Great Movie Escape. Consisting of two escape rooms, the facility is currently in "soft opening" mode this week and opening to the public on Friday.

Back to the Future: OUTATIME

Guests must work together to uncover Doc Brown’s clues as they travel through time to track down Biff and save the past and future before they run “outatime.” 

We question the wisdom of these limited-capacity venues versus the liquor money made by The Groove.

CW Update: No NYE Party?

Around this time of year our attention turns to New Years Eve parties taking place around the area including at Universal Orlando Resort. But we can find no mention of their annual EVE party that takes place within CityWalk. Some private websites mention it but their mentions appear to be just rehashes of prior year's events but updated with current year dates. But we can't find mention of anything official from Universal itself. This would not surprise us given that very little of CityWalk remains operational. If we find out anything though, we'll update you.

DS Update: The Christmas Season Has Arrived

Now that Thanksgiving is over, let's cross this bridge one more time to beautiful Pleasure Island.

To check out the Christmas trees scattered throughout Disney Springs. We would call this one the "main" tree and it's located in Town Center.

And this one near the West Side water fountain.

And this one near the Orange Garage entrance.

At Disney Springs during the Christmas season, a good time is had by all.

Concert Report: World's Largest Disco (Buffalo)

On Saturday night we attended the World's Largest Disco event in Buffalo, NY. It's like 8TRAX on steroids with 7,000 attendees! Due to the flight schedule, we will get photos posted by late afternoon on Sunday. Please tune back to check them out!  UPDATE: The article has been loaded here.

Club Report: Today At The Record Store

Today at the brand new Remix Record Shop South, a stacked lineup of DJ's performing between Noon and Midnight. Drop by anytime and see who is on the decks! Woodward Street is the narrow east-west running street behind the CVS at the corner of Colonial & Mills. Park in the lot at the east end of the street and you'll see Remix in the strip center there.

This is the Coca-Cola store in Disney Springs West Side.

Go up to the 2nd floor and get in the "Meet Polar Bear" queue.

And come take a selfie with the Coca-Cola bear. The on-duty photographer will take one of you with the bear ($25 if you buy it; $30 for a package) but they will also let you take a selfie with your own camera at no charge. Don't miss it!
