PI Update: Gideon's Bakehouse Opening

Yesterday we reported on the opening of Everglazed Donuts in Disney Springs West Side and today we'll take a look at the opening of Gideon's Bakehouse.

Located at the Hub on Pleasure Island itself, it's where Erwin Pearl Jewelry and Rustic Cuff were previously housed. In the Island's history, PI Live Bar was located here.

The motif is very Harry Potterish.

Unlike the lines for Erwin Pearl Jewelry which were nonexistent lol, the line to get into Gideon's stretched way past Mannequins.....

.....to around back along the Waterfront to nearly 8TRAX. Yes, the line is longer for social distancing purposes but it still reminded me of weekend nights getting into Mannequins. Come check it out!

DS Update: Everglazed Opening

Everglazed Donuts has opened in Disney Springs West Side in the spot formerly occupied by Pop Gallery. Since it's kind of in a alleyway between the Orange Garage and the main pedestrian pathway and behind the AMC Theater complex, it is easy to overlook.

There's at least 10 different donut types to choose from.

And a cute little eating area outside behind the place. Since Disney Springs isn't really open at breakfast time, the donuts would be more for snacking at other times of the day. 

I went with the traditional glazed. It's about 2X the size of a Dunkin donut at about 4X the price of a Dunkin donut. But even at around $5, it may be the cheapest snack option in Disney Springs. And it was GOOD! Come check it out.

PI Update: DJ Willie Around Town

When we saw DJ Willie (USA) at the new 18th floor lounge in the downtown AC Hotel by Marriot last Friday night, it made us realize that we've known this guy for more than a decade now!

For many years in the post Pleasure Island era he was a resident DJ at Atlantic Dance Hall. If ADH ever reopens, we'd expect him to be back in the perch there.

We've also seen him in the booth at The Groove at Universal CityWalk.

 

Shortly after the PI clubs closed, we also spotted him at least once leading the festivities on the Island's "Celebrate Tonight" show. Look for him again playing this Friday night at the AC Hotel by Marriott Skybar Terrace.  Keep on truckin' DJ Willie!

Does this guy look familiar? Yes, that's DJ Willie (USA) from Atlantic Dance Hall and The Groove at Universal Citywalk. He was playing all House music last night at the new 18th floor lounge in the AC Hotel by Marriott downtown. Downtown Update: Coming & Going

It was just back in August of 2017 when we said goodbye to sports bar Frank'N'Steins located at the corner of Church Street and Magnolia Street. It was one of downtown's few true sports bars.

It's replacement was called Market of Magnolia and it seemed by-in-large to be very similar to its predecessor. It too has now closed.

We've reported many times from dance club The Patio but rarely from its hidden backroom club called Jungle Room. Changes are a-happening back there!

They've really cleaned up the place and now they have this new selfie-wall!

While our model Jose posed for us in front of this one. More surprises are planned for the space in the near future but those are secret. We can tell you the Jungle Room name is likely leaving but Hip Hop DJ's will still play on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

PI Update: Remembering Our Clubs!

Ran into these Pleasure Island souvenir glasses this past weekend and it was great to stir-up the memories. I was a rare visitor to Adventurers Club and absolutely never went to Comedy Warehouse. I wasn't against comedy, I just felt I was missing something at my favorite clubs Mannequins and 8TRAX. During the early Hip Hop years I frequented BET Soundstage. During the later years Id visit club Motion at midnight for the "Cupid Shuffle" and other line dances but then it was back to Mannequins. Pleasure Island sold a lot of logo memorabilia in the early and middle years but towards the end very little. After the PI closure was announced, they did bring out the above plastic souvenir glasses featuring the logo of each remaining clubs. By this time RRBC was already closed and it was not included on the glasses. Memories!
