Club Report: Why Not Lounge

Today we look back at north Orlando's venerable and legendary Why Not Lounge!
The venue sadly closed in 2015 and was located in what was at the time the Howard Johnson's Plaza Hotel at the junction of I-4 and SR 436 in Altamonte Springs. Originally this was a Holiday Inn and the Why Not was a stereotypical Holiday Inn lounge.
Back when Orlando was a much smaller town, the Why Not Lounge was the place to see and be seen in the north suburbs!  There was always a live band playing Rock and Pop hits.

For more than 30 years, Thursday night was Ladies Night at the Why Not!
And in later years it drew a very older crowd!
The cougars were trolling!
And the only girls in their 20's were probably there with their mothers!
But it was always a fun time!
Sometimes some of the bands' vocalists were something to look at.
At the Why Not Lounge, a good time was had by all.

I suspect many of the older crowd, including myself, now rock one or more of the 3 "Town Squares" at The Villages. In fact, one of your pictures shows the "Never Never Band" performing which is one of many of the rotating bands that perform at the "Town Squares". Citywalks' "Blue Stone Circle" is another popular band that frequently performs at the "Town Squares". The Why Not Lounge was a great venue for live bands and lively dancing.

Blue Stone Circle is formerly known as the band Panama that was a Rock And Roll Beach Club at Pleasure Island staple in the 90's. The former lead singer Ron Rhunde is now the head of entertainment at the Edison Orlando! Small world huh...

I did not know that. I will mention your comment to the current members of the band the next time I see them which will probably be within a couple of weeks. Thanks for the history nugget.
