Club Reports: Atrium Party, Skywalkers (Star Princess)

This long cruise on Star Princess is finally drawing to a conclusion this morning.  The ending included a crew talent show!
Down in the ship's atrium, a big balloon drop celebrating Princess' 50th anniversary.
"Celebration" from the Leal Party Quintet (RCH)!
Lots of people dancing!
One last visit to Skywalkers Nightclub up on Deck 17.
DJ Pedro (P) delivering 70's, 80's, some Latin and a great EDM set that included Avicii, Calvin Harris & Tiesto!

But that on this cruise that had weather ranging from sunny and hot to snowy and windy, a good time was had by all!

Princess built Skywalkers up on Deck 18 on approximately 4 of their cruise ship newbuilds. What they learned is that by having the ship's dance club so far removed from the rest of the ship, they lost a lot of business because it takes effort to make your way there. There are no "passersby" that hear the music and decide to stay, or see a big group having fun and decide to stay. Anyone who has been on a Carnival ship knows the placement of their dance club is right on the main drag of the ship. Newer Princess ships still have a Skywalkers Nightclub but it's no longer located aft high above the ship.

Very interesting, King Bob! I was also told that something about the weight of the nightclub up high in the back causes the ship to sit at a little different attitude in the water and use more fuel that way. I bet both reasons are correct. But having Skywalkers on Deck 17 fascinatingly eerie with the big windows everywhere and those moving sidewalks that take you up another level (Golden Princess was my experience) to Skywalkers is like going up into outer space. Of course, I was the one that told you about our cruise being in the hurricane in Cabo in 2014. It was downright frightening anywhere on the ship but Skywalkers was particularly delightfully scary with the ship rocking in the high waves. We figured if we were going down we were going down in style with martini I'm hand. And the music kept on playing...

P.S. I read and saw pictures online where they removed Skywalkers from the aft upper deck of at least one ship during a refurb and opened it somewhere else on the ship instead but the article said they would not be doing that to the remaining ships that still have Skywalkers up above. I hope they continue to leave them alone!

Anon, I thought I had read that too about one ship having the aft Skywalkers removed. I kind of doubt the story about the ships with an aft Skywalkers using more fuel though. Seems like that would have been discovered during computer modeling well-before such a ship was constructed. But I don't know. The story I heard in the travel press was the impact on drink sales from being so far removed.

(I've also been on Golden Princess. DJ Pedro on Star Princess was much better!)
