Club Reports: Rix Lounge, Atlantic Dance Hall, Rocco's Tacos, Bikkuri Lounge

Doing some club hopping on a Friday night and beginning the festivities at Rix Lounge inside Disney's Cornonado Springs Resort.
Nice surprise finding DJ Ish (Rocco's Tacos, Bliss Ultra Lounge, Boss) in the booth spinning a mix of Oldies, Hip Hop & Dance!
Place was actually packed!
People were dancing wherever they stood!
The dance floor itself stayed relatively empty although I saw people come and go off it during my visit.  Ish says Rix is trying to bring back the crowds they once had and I can tell you they're doing it.  Drinks are a bit on the high side but there is no cover charge!
Moving over to Atlantic Dance Hall at Disney's Boardwalk Resort.  As the sign now says, there is a $5 cover charge at the club.
DJ Frankie (Frankie & The West End Boys, Rock'n'Roll Beach Club, Stitch's Club 626) was on the boards spinning requests that were mostly Top 40/Dance during my visit.
So few people go here because it's not advertised and the new cover charge isn't helping any.
Supposedly the cover charge concept is to be evaluated within the next couple weeks.
I'm told the Thursday night Karaoke night is a real bust with mostly CM's coming out and singing Disney songs.  Since they get in free and since they don't buy a lot of drinks, well.....
I've been here for lunch but this is a first time club visit to Rocco's Tacos on Sand Lake Road.
Great finding DJ Freefall (Vanity, Vintage, Dragon Room, Rok Room) in the booth playing short sets of EDM, Hip Hop, Top 40, Latin!
Club was packed wall-to-wall as I had heard!
Dancing all over the place!
A late night club element at restaurants is what is coming to Pleasure Island.  Our article on Wednesday will talk about that aspect!
Spotted in the booth hanging with the DJ:  Mrs. Freefall. Nice!
Last stop of the night to Bikkuri Lounge located in Bikkuri Sushi on Colonial Drive.
Arrived to find DJ Robb Blak (Firestone Live, Roxy Nightclub) in the booth spinning Trance!
The last Friday of every month is "Lost in Trancelation" night!
Home of the awesome color-changing light wall, there was a good crowd on hand.
Coming on around 1am, DJ KC Killjoy!
Spotted: DJ J-13 (Suite B Lounge, Firestone Live, Bikkuri Lounge) who will be spinning in The Den at Firestone Live tonight!
And a good time was had by all!

Same thing at ADH as Rix, the drinks are a little pricey..I bet there wasn't a lot of locals there, right? City Walk has the right ideas with drink specials and happy hours..

Rix is big with the convention crowd and with big cheerleading competitions at Disney this weekend, these might be the cheerleader's "rents" out having a good time. Even adults traveling with children want some free time for themselves later at night.

"Even adults traveling with children want some free time for themselves later at night"... wasn't that the original idea for Pleasure Island? Lol...

Lets see how much sense this makes. Charge $5.00 cover at ADH to watch a DJ and some videos. Then have a Karaoke night, but have NO cover on that night when there is what you could say "some form" of real entertainment going on that might be worth paying for.

Let me guess, they put the college program interns in charge of the marketing / promotions at ADH.

There is a $5 cover charge on karaoke night too.

I just stayed at The Dolphin and was surprised that Atlantic Dance Hall wasn't mentioned in the brochures the hotel provided. If Disney offered by one get one free drinks and put a coupon in everybody's room key as the checked in to all the Epcot and Boardwalk resorts I think they would make tons of money and the place would be busy. It's such a shame. It's a really nice club.

Atlantic Dance is $5 just to walk in (and likely be disappointed) now?

It's like they're trying to put it out of business. Sound familiar?

There is a reason you don't find those coupons in the hotel rooms. First, "Disney" branded stuff has that stigma of "we don't do coupons" 2nd, marketing dept has no idea ADH exists, 3rd, boardwalk management has no balls to go over to the dolphin and just make a deal with them and print up there own discount sheets and overall they don't really care much about the place. It makes money on weddings and conventions events, enough that the "nightly ops" can be used as a write off to offset the profit.

Saw something interesting at ADH on Wednesday night. The lady working the door was writing down counts. She had 3 collums. One for CM's, one for Resort and one for Guests. I tried to do a quick count and it came to about 19 for the night. We arrived at about 10:30 pm. Only 7 people including the two in my party were inside at the time so some had come and gone. We left at 11:15pm so others probably came later.

That picture of the dance floor should provide all the evaluation they need for the new cover charge.

Rix is historically crowded that weekend every year (and has been for the past five years), as it's the Worlds Cheer Competition. Rix is used as the official "socializing" place for all the cheer coaches and officials on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Come next weekend, and the place will be empty again and stay that way for another 51 weeks.

71: That is so true.

Anon at 2:39am: Hope that's not the case. Ish says management is trying to get the crowds they once had (more than one weekend a year) back again.
