Club Reports: Latin Quarter, The Groove

Had not been out to CityWalk on a Saturday night in awhile, so that was remedied last night.  First stop, Latin Quarter!
Resident DJ Leony (Sirius XM 51, Club Phusion, RadioDanz.com), on the boards spinning the requisite Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and Reggaeton.
Always nice views at LQ!
Leony, who has a national EDM mixshow on Sirius/XM's BPM channel, also plays House sets throughout the night at Latin Quarter!
The place was crowded but not packed.  Ladies Night on Thursday nights remain popular when Ladies get in and drink free until midnight.
Moving next door to The Groove.
Good to see resident DJ King (Motion, Rock'n'Roll Beach Club, BET Soundstage, PI Live) in the perch again on a Saturday night!
The place was crowded yet it's still off-season.  Wait until Spring Break hits!
Doing a nice MJ impersonation while dancing to "Billy Jean"!
Early on the music was a lot of 80's Classics & 90's Top 40/Hip Hop like you typically hear at TG.
The Robot aka The Gecko (Pleasure Island)!
As it got later DJ King got more and more animated, bouncing to the music just as much as the clubbers down below!
The music also migrated over to much more palatable EDM songs and mashups!  The crowd loved it!  Miami DJ Erok plays here on February 16th.
PI girls!  A good time was had by all!

Bob, We were out a couple of weeks ago and got a chance to be at The Groove and experience DJKing. He is truly great at what he does! His mixes are spot on, his video mashups are one of a kind, and he watches and feels the crowd at all times. It was by far our best experience at TG! Really looking forward to going back and seeing him again soon. Was almost going there last night, but got stuck working at the last minute...Lol! Sorry we missed you...

Make sure you tell the Groove management that you enjoyed King on the decks.

Anon, thank you... Will do. Michael is the GM of TG, Jim is the GM of City Walk. The next time we see Michael, we will def let him know. We see Jim all the time and will let him know also. Great guys over there, everybody is great all over CW! By far, DJ King makes TG! (No disrespect to the other DJ's there...) If we can't have our Island back (yet), CW works for us (until Disney comes to their senses..if ever) Damn Mouse!

It's no disrespect to the other Djs. King is great and gets the job done. Each Dj has his/her own style and if they're true professionals, they'll be glad to see King get the respect because he's one of the Djs on the City Walk team.

Just my $0.02

I absolutely agree.

I think he's gotten a lot better this past year.

first things first! most dj's of today (yes I will say it AGAIN) are not real DJ's the are mp3J's (MP jockeys) and or laptopJ's (laptop jockeys) no real talent! the laptop does dang near all the work you know 98%
just sayin!
oh and yes you MP3 jockeys will disagree but REAL DJ's will not

Jim is not GM of CW, just three of the clubs...Jimmy Joslin will be doing a Sunday night thing to compete against HOB starting next month.

Let's be careful throwing those broad statements around trashing Djs for no reason.

It not relevant to the thread.

The laptop vs CD debate has been played out before here on the Blog so we don't need to go there again. And really, wouldn't DJ's who still use actual records be considered even more superior to DJ's using CD's? Each method has advantages and disadvantages. And I foresee even laptops falling by the wayside, replaced by the next technology.

DJ King, keep up the good work!

MadManRay, sorry I missed you.

Anon at 11:12am, thanks for the info about Jimmy Joslin coming to The Groove on Sundays. His Sunday event at BB Kings (ironically, with Magic Mike) just never caught on. Universal has a lot more power to get the word out. I'm liking the fact that CityWalk management is taking a liking to EDM!

I was nat talkin bout CD's! I was talkin bout 12" and yes the cd' r better! like I said before no talent just need to push play! HOW EASY!
ok it was a broad statement! but if it fits the bill!

and how it not relevant to this? it was a broad statement?

sorry to continue but had to respond!

oh and funny when I point out that they can be replaced with a amature DJ you all get ticked! and say stop talking bout it LOVE IT!

Since this was debated several months ago in the Comments, I didn't want us to go down that road again.

If you really wanna go through the hassle of lugging crates of vinyl with you to a gig just so you can prove you are a "real" Dj, knock yourself out. Get with the program. This is the 21st Century. While I still have my 1200s in flight cases in the garage and cases (times 20+) of vinyl in the garage for the 80s and 90s, I leave them at home. It's old skool and stupid to lug that crap around. Been there and done that.
I do so stuff with my Laptop and Serato that you couldn't have dreamed of doing back then with your 2 turntables and a mixer.

And yes, this is OFF THE TOPIC. We're talking about The Groove, City Walk, etc. and how King is kicking ass and taking names in there. Btw; notice he's rocking the time code vinyl for Scratch Live too.

you really deleted my post? but not the new one GREAT! you have done this before! you let certain people say what they want but will not let others post their opinion! freedom to post HUH?

KingBob said...

I don't think the guy who is complaining is a DJ because he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I think you are correct sir.

if your talkin bout me NO I am not a DJ but I do have A DJ program! and have used it! sounds just like any club I have been to! who you know! is how u get a job.

Anonymous said...

That's like saying "I'm not a ___ but I play one on TV."

Anonymous said...

thats not the same poster! at February 6, 2013 at 1:33 AM
obviously this ticks some one off! what are you scared of? losing your job a a JOE schmo?

Anonymous said...

Sorry but "if your talkin bout me NO I am not a DJ but I do have A DJ program" is funny. And yes, that is like the play one on TV comment.

Are you serious with that stuff?

Anonymous said...

DJ hero I bet.

Anonymous said...

guess you will never think it is true because you can lose your job to a cheaper paid DJ and it hurts to think that! AND NO NOT DJ HERO!
programs LIKE MIXX.org KraMixer virual DJ, dj mix pro ETC! do download and try your self!!! but again you will never believe! cause you dont want to!

KingBob said...

I do believe this:
1) With the increased popularity of DJ-driven music, a lot more people are trying to be DJ's than ever before.

2) It's cheaper than ever to obtain basic equipment and programs to learn on your own.

3) It's easier than ever to learn because laptops can do most of the work for someone if they want it to.

4) The supply of DJ's is way up and when supply is up, prices come down. There are entry level DJ's out there working cheap and at times, for free

5) In the paragraph above, I did not say "quality" DJ's.
