Club Reports: Paradiso 37, Planet Hollywood, Atlantic Dance Hall

Thursday night out; why not spend it at beautiful Pleasure Island! I've dined at Paradiso 37 several times since they opened but first time I've come out for the music.

On Thursday through Saturday nights DJ Tony Z (Atlantic Dance Hall, Planet Hollywood) is playing Top 40 and Club/Dance music which is beginning to draw crowds after 10:30pm, particularly DTD employees looking for a late night drink or two. The music is nothing like ADH where divergent requests must get played.

Around the corner in the Waterfront lagoon is Planet Hollywood, another restaurant with music.

Always great running into DJ Talie (Motion, PI Live, Atlantic Dance Hall, Celebrate Tonight, Stitch's Club 626 Dance Party)! She was playing Top 40 for the diners.

Then over to Atlantic Dance Hall to check out their Thursday activity. You never know what you're going to find here.

DJ Tony B (The Groove, Motion, Rock'n'Roll Beach Club, PI Live) was on the boards cranking out Top 40, Dance and Hip Hop.
And omg, ADH was really crowded! On a Thursday.

The floor stayed crowded until midnight when it really thinned out.

A large contingent was dressed in white-on-white which I found out was from a dental convention taking place on-property. ADH is located at Disney's Boardwalk Resort and like I said, you never know what  you're going to get here!

I've found ADH to be a pretty fun place on the few occasions that I have been there. It's no revolving dance floor but still fun. Thanks for the up the minute report!

Hi Jeff. When there's a good crowd then it can be a fun place. When hardly anyone is there it's just too gloomy. Are you going to see Tiësto there at the Fairgrounds?

Hey KingBob, 8TRAX fans have got to find a way up north to Culture Club in New York City, opening on September 30th. It looks like they spared no expense. www.cultureclub.com

Tightglove, is the club open yet? One thing I read refers to opening Summer 2011 and then elsewhere "this Fall".

When I was up in Atlanta a few weeks ago I tried to locate 8traxx, a 70's/80's disco that had opened there in Buckhead. Apparently it was no longer in business; I went by the address and saw no sign of the place. The club was mentioned here on the Blog in an 11/24/10 article. You posted a comment in that article about the Breakfast Club in Charlotte.

KingBob, afraid I won't make it over there to the fairgrounds tomorrow but it should be a good show. They are talking about moving the fairgrouds BTW - about 25 miles West of the current location, sometime next year. Cheers!

KingBob, yes, Culture Club has it's grand opening next weekend on September 30th. You can follow the club on twitter; CultureClubNYC where you can see pictures of the inside. It really looks decked out! I'd like to say "like Disney did it", but judging by the pictures, it's 8TRAX on steroids. (Sorry to hear you wasted some time in Atlanta.)

iF 8-traxx in Atlanta is out of business, I think that's a fairly new thing! We were there the last weekend of July and although we didn't have the time to visit it, we did locate it and take pictures of the outside!

Well, I may have to eat my words! Just looked at their website which is still active. I drove by the 56 E. Andrews address the night I was there and the sign only referred to Andrews Upstairs, a club of its own. Saw no mention of 8traxx. So that's why I thought it wasn't there anymore. But the andrewsupstairs.com website shows the building and the lack of 8traxx mention but clicking a couple buttons one moves to the 8traxx site. SO IT'S STILL THERE!

How disappointing since I booked my hotel in Buckhead specifically so I'd be near the place. DAMN!

I actually did have to go to the Gainesville Airport (right next to the fairgrounds) and was stuck in some of the Tiësto traffic. You could hear and see it from the road. The place was rocking! I'll make a point to be there next time. Judging by the crowd - he'll be back!

Jeff, thanks for the report from Gainesville. I think that's smart marketing for him to put concerts in college towns. Used to be only large cities and college towns had concert facilities. Since that is no longer the case, he's smart to build a base of new fans from that age group. Glad to hear that the event did well there tonight.
