PI Update: Exclusive Grass & Mulch Coverage

A beautiful warm spring afternoon in Orlando; a perfect day to take a cruise!
Destination: beautiful Pleasure Island!
If you've ever been on a cruise, you know that feeling of excitement as you approach your island destination. What kind of discoveries will you make? What kind of fun will you have?
No, that's not Ireland off in the distance, that's the new green Pleasure Island!
Motion is gone. Rock'n'Roll Beach Club is gone. But there's enough green to open an 18-hole Putt Putt.
It is a thing of beauty although I could not find any of the promised mulch as another cruise ship passes by.
What's interesting is that work on the new pathway shown in the blueprints continues but there is no apparent work on the Amphitheater. Original rumors had the two clubs being rapidly demolished in order to have that Amphitheater open for business for the summer tourist season. But if you planned major construction such as the amphitheater, would you pave a new pathway right in front of the construction zone? I've heard no new rumors on that subject but it appears to me that the new Amphitheater isn't coming anytime soon. So they're going to proceed with the pathway nonetheless and it's merely going to pass through the grassy area. That's what it seems.
It's really not very pretty grass. If this was in my backyard, I'd be calling TruGreen to come out and kill it!
Looking west from the current service area that's between Raglan Road and Portobello.
Looking east from that same service area. What's odd here is that electrical box should be removed so that the pathway from the west can make the right turn here into the current service area. Yet that pathway seems to be going beyond the service area to behind Portobello. I don't know to where.

They did all of this so they could grow grass?

Last night, I was at Downtown Disney and noticed construction walls around the "Mismatched" store. I'm guessing they are moving out and Harley Davidson will be moving in.

Just bulldoze the whole thing at this point I don't think anyone would really care. What has happened to Disney, they used to lead now they just look so clueless. Pathetic

Thought it odd they started laying sod two weeks ago rather than starting on the "levels" of the ampitheater. I agree, doesn't look at all like that is happening any time soon.

Y'know, if they bulldozed everything, they would probably have enough space to put up a bunch of DVC units...

Disney Vacation Club at Downtown Disney. Hmmm.....has a nice ring to it!

Nothing about Pleasure Island in the last few years makes any sense. First they close the clubs, only to leave empty, abandoned buildings right in the middle of the resorts prime shopping area. Nothing is done for the longest time, and now they go to the trouble of tearing down those unused structures, to make space for a grassy lawn.

Even with the obvious lack of any plan for the area - even Hyperion Wharf appears to be little more than vague hopes of third party tenants in slightly dressed-up surroundings - Disney's mismanagement of the island defies explanation.

A trained monkey - without the training - could produce better results.

Woohoo! Disney's New Sod Farm is gonna be open soon! Who needs Epcot's Flower & Garden Festival when you have Downtown Disney's lush grass!

Bob I think your golf idea is the best one out there yet...well either that or maybe they could put some livestock there to graze..let nature reclaim the island

breaking news, EPCOT flower and garden festival canceled due to bold new vision of seed and mulch on pleasure island LOL

A lot of landowners get a tax break by allowing livestock to graze because taxes on agricultural land are far less than on developed land. It would thus not surprise me to see Disney putting some cattle out there!

Congrats Disney on your New Big Park in China. I guess it's more important to expand World Wide in other countries then taking care of WALT DISNEY WORLD. I wonder what Walt himself would say about His company making a deal with a communist country like china. Just for your information Walt didn't like communist. Iger your to busy expanding around the world and forgetting about the wants of people here. Disney doesn't even have total control of the company in China . I guess it's more important to cater to 330 million people in China which don't have a clue about Mickey or anything related to Disney. Then to please the people who made you what you are in America. This explains why you Disney executives just dont care. All you care about is the money !IF all you have to offer after all this time is a field of grass then Iger your an Idiot and any executive that thinks like you. You should be Fired !

I'd prefer watching the grass grow than to get lost in yet another labyrinth of T-Shirt and Princess shops. But that's what we're going to get.

Who the heck needs clubs and dancing and beer and fun when you can wade through thousands of screaming kids and mountains of PIXAR crap!

If you don't have five kids, then Disney isn't for you anymore.
