Club Report: CityWalk Techno Night

Could a club night be better than Mannequins? Oh my god, I think I just experienced it! Notwithstanding the incredible lighting at Mannequins and not withstanding the revolving dance floor, I think the case has just been made that CityWalk needs a techno night at least once in awhile! The outside area was packed with partiers who paid good money expecting Techno dance music and getting it. Among the outside DJ's were DJ Nova (Blue Martini, Antigua) and DJ Freefall (Vintage). Inside The Groove, things started off slow but as the crowd ventured in they discovered at least 4 DJ's in the booth taking turns churning out House music including DJ Chad Andrew (Bliss). The place became absolutely packed and even the upstairs was open, unheard of for a Sunday night. No one came expecting Hip Hop and Top 40 so no one was disappointed. I've never had this much fun at CityWalk. Lots of Mannequins regulars in attendance! I think this proves that if you play Techno, they will come!

YES! Completely agree!! A techno night is exactly what City Walk needs every now and then. Everybody had a great time, the crown was "clean" and nobody was expecting the "other" music. GO CITY WALK!! Hopefully we will see this again, atleast in the clubs. Let the music play and they will come!

We had a great time last night Bobby. It was great seeing you and a lot of the regulars from P.I.

I was possessed by the techno music inside the Groove; it turned me into a "raving" maniac. I wish City Walk would have more techno music events like this more often.

I think the key is what the first poster said: nobody was expecting the "other" music.

In that regard, Groove resident DJ AJ is correct. The regular crowd doesn't know what to do with Techno. He played a song for me on Friday night that he had to cut-off in the middle of it because the hip-hoppers (of all colors) didn't know how to dance to it. But when you advertise a special Techno event like last night, only those looking for it come out.

80's Night at The Groove has been a resounding Thursday night experiment turned success. Perhaps we can get a once per month Techno/Dance night; i.e. First Friday!

A couple weeks ago while at I was at ADH, DJ Tony Z played the awesome Selena Gomez "Naturally" Aude mix, and the floor emptied.
Clearly, those people don't know good music if it bit them.
Now, the Cha-Cha Slide...they LOVE that crap.

...I'd love a techno night at CW.

Joe this is the real problem no one knows great music! ADH people mostly want that HIP HOP crap!

disney dont want hip hop

Disney don't want hip hop? That's much of what they played at Motion and mostly what they play at ADH!

what do you think BET was??????? on PI ON Disney property!

Anonymous said...

Yes, but Disney toned down the Hip Hop played at BET and MOTiON as it was starting to attract some "unsavory" types; they played more "old skool" towards the end (which is why that club was always so empty).

but nothing! it did play HIP HOP!

and nothing NOTHING will ever be better than Mannequins Dance Palace! it had the whole package the sound system round dance floor and lighting that was to die for! Back in the day the dj's where kick *ss put these guys to shame!

the groove has a 1/2 *ss floor 1/4 *ss sound system and maybe 1/100 *ss lighting! and wimpy fog machines . it took city walk this long to get "good" music it took PI day one!
the only reason that city walk is busy now is because PI is gone.

I know that PI is gone but still you will never make me think that there is anything better! NEVER!

While this website dwells in the past, we also look to the future. That includes maximizing knowledge and use of what IS available for us out there and doing the best we can with it.

By the way, I was critiqued on another website for calling this event "Techno". Within the music industry, Techno really is a specific type of music and what we heard at CityWalk was not Techno. What we heard inside was various types of "House" music.

But unless you're in the music industry or are a die-hard music expert, most laypeople know electronic dance music including House, Trance & Dance simply as "Techno". But "technically", Techno is an incorrect term for it.
